So, as I’ve been hinting since last week, with all of the Rock of last week’s theme here on the blog, it only seemed right to follow it up with some real, true Pop! Not just any Pop, though… If you guys recall in my “This Month In Music: July” post, a prophecy was made, (by myself,) that there would be a HOLY TRINITY OF POP in Fall 2013. I already featured the first part of this Divine Trinity on Wednesday, with the start of my Britney Spears Makeup Series and talked about her upcoming release there, however Britney is only one part of the Perfect Pop Trifecta for Fall 2013. This post is to talk about the other two parts of this HOLY TRINITY OF POP!!!
Katy Perry has FINALLY released the first single from the follow-up to what I honestly believe to be the most perfect Pop record I have ever heard, “Teenage Dream.” Obviously, having given her last record the title of “the most perfect Pop record,” I have been really anxious for it’s follow-up and expect very big things for the follow up. This follow-up is called “Prism” and, based on the imagery and the first single, it looks like Katy is definitely going in a different direction with this record – the promo images feature Katy with very little makeup, a more natural hair color than her signature blue, (she even burned her iconic blue wig in a teaser video,) and just a very stripped down image. This is also reflected in her recent duet with her boyfriend, John Mayer, called “Who You Love.” The debut single, “Roar,” is absolutely stunning! It’s still very much a pop song but with a much more acoustic based, organic sounding pop record with an incredibly inspirational and motivational message about coming into your own and finding (and using,) your own voice. Katy does not get nearly enough hype for her ability as a songwriter but I think that she is one of the most brilliant newer voices in pop these days and I cannot wait to see what else she has to offer with “Prism.”
Since the promo images for this record that have been released so far are minimal, not only in the sense that there are only two of them this far but also in the style in these images. It seems very much like they were going for a “No Makeup” Makeup Look, or perhaps just a more worn makeup look, featuring a really candy-colored stain to the lips, a wash of warm gold across the lids and a very natural flush and glow to the cheeks! I created a tutorial for this look for you guys, although I wasn’t entirely thrilled with how it came out. I don’t know – see for yourself below!

I cannot even begin to explain to you all the love that I feel for Lady Gaga! She is my very favorite and, in my opinion, the single most important artist to have emerged in the new millennium. Her debut album, “The Fame,” was 100% pure dance pop with a gorgeous, artistic edge, which was taken a step further with it’s re-release “The Fame Monster,” and even further with her absolutely brilliant sophomore album “Born This Way.” Now, after nearly 2 years somewhat out of the spotlight, Gaga is readying the release of her third studio album, “ARTPOP,” which I couldn’t possibly be more excited about! The album’s lead single, “Applause,” was released earlier than planned on August 12, 2013, as well as some recent leaks, including a brilliant demo for TLC called “Posh Life,” an “ARTPOP” demo called “Burqa” and, best of all, an absolutely amazing duet with Cher called “The Greatest Thing.” All of these tracks really show that Gaga is ready, once again, to take both ART and POP to the next level!
Initially I was planning to recreate a look from one of Gaga’s four recently released covers of V Magazine, however on this past Monday when the music video for “Applause” premiered, I absolutely fell in love with one of the many looks in the video. The look from the cover of the “Applause” single has been done on YouTube quite a bit recently, which is also featured in the music video, and I had initially considered doing that look but then another look appeared in the video that I just immediately felt like I had to do! The look I am talking about features Gaga with some type of black scarf around her head, a face painted all white, really deep, glossy purple lips, a really cool, messy black eye with yellow surrounding it and this crazy application of a purple-reddish color coming off of the eyes and spreading down onto the cheeks! I absolutely loved this look and just immediately felt like it was perfect for my very first Lady Gaga makeup tutorial, which I have been dying to do for the past couple of years but just never felt the time was right… until now! Like I said before, Britney, Katy and Gaga all having new albums planned for this fall is, to me, the absolutely perfect trifecta of Pop music, creating a perfect musical landscape for Fall and closing out 2013 with a bang! You could say that Britney is like the Father, having been around the longest and paved the way for the other two, in her own way. Katy would be the Son, the bright-eyed, young ingenue setting the pace and changing the game for all the future Pop newcomers, and Gaga would be the Holy Ghost, risen from the ashes of a past couple years without any new material. This is probably the most blasphemous thing I have ever written here on the blog and I deeply apologize if it has been offensive to any of you. I should probably stop there. So, I wish you all a beautiful weekend and a beautiful life!
