America’s Got Beauty

As you all surely know by now, if you have been following the blog for a while, I am a pretty avid TV watcher. From sitcoms to dramas to reality shows, I get a major kick out of TV and have since I was a child. So, the month of September has always been somewhat synonymous, in my mind, with the start of the new television seasons. In recent years, though, particularly since the writer’s strike, there has been more and more variation in the television schedule with the onslaught of reality series targeted specifically for Sunmer audiences. Some of these reality shows are dreadful, certainly, and some of them are quite brilliant. Today we are talking about one that is a little bit of both: “America’s Got Talent.”
“America’s Got Talent” is a reality competition series focusing on talent of all different varieties – from singers to comedians, circus acts to dance crews, and a little bit of everything in between! The show has launched the careers of stars like classical singer Jackie Evancho, comedian/ventriloquist Terry Fator, singers Michael Grimm & Landau Eugene Murphy, etc. Aside from perhaps Jackie Evancho, the show has mostly failed at creating any legitimate superstars but such is the history of the majority of reality competition shows! What’s been considerably more interesting than the show’s contestants over the years has been it’s judging panel. The series has had a number of different judges throughout it’s run, including David Hasselhoff, Brandy, Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and it’s most recent panel, Howie Mandel, Howard Stern and the two inspirations for this post: supermodel Heidi Klum and Spice Girl Melanie B!
Heidi Klum shot to stardom as a Victoria’s Secret Angel but worked her way up to becoming full-fledged supermodel status, serving as spokesmodel for some of the world’s biggest brands, walking runways for some of the world’s most high-profile designers and gracing the covers of countless magazines, including Sports Illustrated’s infamous Swimsuit Edition. As her career progressed, Heidi expanded into several different facets of the entertainment industry, playing small supporting roles and making cameo appearances on various films and television series, (including my personal favorite episode of “Sex & The City,”) as well as venturing out into television production, as well as hosting, including her Emmy Award-winning turn on “Project Runway.” With all of that behind her, judging “America’s Got Talent” isn’t that big of a leap for her but it has given the world a look at a side of her we haven’t seen as much of before: her humor and personality!
As I have been watching this season of “America’s Got Talent,” I couldn’t help but keep an eye out every week for what Heidi would be wearing and how her hair and makeup were done for each episode because she is absolutely stunning and is always styled to perfection. So, it only took an episode or two for it to become blatant to me that I just had to do a tutorial for a look from Heidi! I began to notice that Heidi had a look that she wore quite frequently which featured a light champagne or gold eye with some deeper bronze adding depth to the outer corners of the eyes, with a glossy nude lip and bronzed skin. The signature thing, though, is the white liner on the waterline. As I watched the series and looked through recent pics of Heidi, I noticed that she almost always wears white liner, which makes sense because she does have smaller eyes. I really loved the way that this look came out and hope you guys will, too! Check out the tutorial below!

Melanie B, I’m sure, requires no introduction here. She is, after all, one-fifth of one of the greatest girl groups of all-time, (and, no, I am not at all overselling this,) the Spice Girls! Yes, Melanie B may once have been more recognizable under her nickname within the group, Scary Spice, but she has also done a lot of really interesting things on her own since the group’s split. Aside from her two brilliant, and underrated, solo albums “Hot” and “LA State Of Mind,” Melanie also wrote an autobiography, “Catch A Fire,” appeared in several mainly UK-based films and television series, as well as acting on stage in my favorite musical of all-time, “RENT” and performing extensively in productions of “The Vagina Monologues.” She majorly raised her solo profile in the US in 2007 when she took second place on the hit reality series “Dancing With The Stars,” which helped launch her own reality series, called “Mel B: It’s A Scary World,” as well as a popular line of fitness DVDs and video games. She also appeared extensively as part of the judging panel on the Australian version of “The C Factor,” which surely helped her in joining the judging panel on “America’s Got Talent.” Most recently, Melanie announced on this week’s finale of “America’s Got Talent” that she would be releasing a brand new single the following day, a gorgeous dance track called “For Once In My Life,”) which I highly recommend checking out!

A couple of weeks into the season of “America’s Got Talent,” I noticed a look on Melanie B, an aqua blue eye shadow paired with a deeper taupe shade, that really kind of blew me away and made me immediately want to go looking for pics of it to analyze in order to recreate it for myself. Unfortunately, as soon as the episode aired, I went looking for pics or screen caps of the episode online and just kept coming up blank. Eventually, just as I was about to give up and start searching for a different look from her to recreate I managed to find two images, and only those two, of Melanie in the look that I was able to use to create a tutorial for the look! As I said before, “America’s Got Talent” is a bit of a mixed bag or falls right on that fine line between really awful and really amazing reality shows but the addition of Heidi, with all of her beauty and charm, and Melanie B, with her loud mouth and “Scary Spice” persona, has really helped to revitalize a bit of a dated format. I can also say that this eighth season also featured some of the strongest talent I have seen on the show, including runner-up, comedian Taylor Williamson, and the season’s winner, Kenichi Ebina, who performs a truly incredible show combining dance and interactive video screens that cannot really be explained in this form. Perhaps, these contestants may even break the “curse” of ill-fated careers from “America’s Got Talent” contestants. We’ll see, anyway. In the meantime, though, I hope you guys enjoyed this post – it’s something a little different than usual and something that I had a bit of fun creating, so I hope it was a bit of fun for you all, as well! Next week I’ve got some pretty different things planned, as well, that I really hope you guys will be keeping an eye out for! In the meantime, though, I wish you all a beautiful weekend and a beautiful life!
