The VicTORIous Stars Of Summer 2013

In February 2010 a new sitcom debuted on children’s television network Nickelodeon as a vehicle for an actress and singer who had played bit parts on various Nickelodeon series and made-for-TV movies. For the most part, this was widely overlooked by anyone of a certain age, (like, legal,) and, in spite running for four seasons over the course of three years, this was mostly of no consequence. Then, over the Summer of 2013, two of the series stars have suddenly risen to the forefront of the pop music landscape and transitioned into full-fledged pop stars! That show was called “VicTORIous,” and this Summer that title has proven true for two of the series brightest stars!
“VicTORIous” was created as a star vehicle for Victoria Justice, who had previously played a supporting role on “Zoey 101” opposite Jamie-Lynn Spears, as well as playing a supporting role in Nickelodeon’s answer to “High School Musical,” the made-for-TV musical “Spectacular,” (alongside my very favorite indie pop star, Simon Curtis,) and the series was a huge success for the network. It also helped to launch Victoria’a career, including starring in her first major motion picture, “Fun Sized,” as well as launching her debut single as a solo artist, “Gold,” which was one of my personal favorite singles of Summer 2013. Victoria is set to release her full-length debut album later this year!

The music video for “Gold” features Victoria in a handful of different looks, however when it came to picking out a look to recreate from Victoria, I was immediately drawn to the look from the opening scene of the video. I love that the look is very youthful and fun, incorporating a really bright, glossy lip, but still very wearable with the neutral eye. This look was right up my alley because it is such an everyday look but still really stands out! Check out the tutorial below!

In spite of playing the sidekick on “VicTORIous,” the biggest rising star to come out of the show, and probably of 2013, is definitley Ariana Grande! Ariana played the role of Cat, the plucky, dim-witted sidekick to Victoria’s character on the show and was known for stealing the show much of the time. In fact, after “VicTORIous” ended, Ariana was cast in the leading role of her own spin-off series, “Sam & Cat,” alongside Jeanette McCurdy, who played the sidekick on one of Nick’s biggest hit series, “iCarly.” Bigger still, though, Ariana has made a major name for herself this Summer on Top 40 Radio, releasing her debut single, and probably my favorite single of Summer 2013, “The Way” featuring Mac Miller. Just a couple of weeks ago now, Ariana released her debut album, “Yours Truly,” (which you may recall me reviewing quite favorably at the time,) as well as launching her second single and music video, “Baby I,” which is set to become just as big of a hit as “The Way” was!

Selecting a look to recreate from Ariana was pretty easy because Ariana has a pretty signature look, with very neutral browns on the eyes, winged liner, really full lashes and a really fresh face and deeper neutral toned lips. So, when I saw the video for “Baby I,” and the fact that she was wearing a sort of different take on that look, I was immediately drawn to it – the eye shadows are a little deeper and warmer toned and the lip is a really gorgeous deep mauve. I even whipped out a really nice pair of false lashes for this look, which you guys may have noticed I have recently become more prone to doing here lately! Check out my Ariana tutorial below!

Like I said, for a little show on a children’s network, “VicTORIous” has launched some careers that I anticipate will be pretty major in the next few years! Aside from Victoria and Ariana, the show’s male lead, Avan Jogia, is now in the leading role on the newest hit series from ABC Family, “Twisted.” I hope you guys have enjoyed this post as much as I have enjoyed putting it together! I also hope you guys will be keeping an eye on the blog next week, as well, because there are lots of fun thing planned that I’m really excited to share with you all! In the meantime, though, I wish you all a beautiful weekend and a beautiful life!
